As a work and play coach from Canada, I have some encouraging words and interesting advice to help you take those great home business ideas that you have and bring them into reality. You know the ones that pop into your head, and you keep thinking on them. And they feel inspired by something bigger than you, but just so right for you to do.
You start taking action—even just a few little planning steps—and the thoughts expand and grow into a really awesome business idea! After the thoughts come and maybe even some initial written planning, you feel so ready to take on the entrepreneurial life and get into the real action that’s going to create your business
This is where many people start to feel overwhelmed. Because, while the ideas may be superb and the planning really fired you up, the technical and admin tasks bring on LOTS of new experiences.
Challenging experiences.
I’m sure most people reading this can agree that learning new skills can put our minds into resistance mode. You know, that not-so-supportive part of our thinking that gives us all kinds of reasons to stop moving forward.
Perhaps you’ve said some of these statements to yourself:
“This is too frustrating.”
“I don’t have the time.”
“I can’t learn all this!”
“There’s just too much technology to figure out. I’ll just have to wait until I can pay someone to do this.”
Our creative minds can always come up with reasons that something isn’t right for us. Even when a MORE inspired part of our mind thought it was so perfect for us before. The questions we all have to ask ourselves is what part of our thinking is reliable?
What thinking drives us forward and what is holding us back?
You have within you the ability to bring about the things in your life that are divinely designed just for you. Whether it’s to do with business, family, community or just your general personal journey. There are certain likes, interests and skills that you have so that YOU can bring something to life. Something for people all over the world, for your local community or for individual people.

The How-To is All About You
I have to admit that the “how to” title of this post is a tad misleading, because I don’t have a real method or step-by-step sequence for you.
The beauty of entrepreneurship is that each of us will run our businesses differently. There’s no ‘one way’ to start your business or to keep yourself motivated to take consistent action. However, there is YOUR way that you’ll determine as time goes on.
I have a few words for you to take in that will get you focussed on what your unique method is and how you can go about maintaining consistent action. Which is what will be the key to bringing your home business ideas to life.
I’ve been watching a few Elon Musk interviews lately and he shares this saying that he got from a friend:
“Starting a business is like eating glass and staring into the abyss.”
At first read it doesn’t sound very inspiring, but after hearing him say that in a few different videos I’ve got a good rephrase that inspires me:
“Starting a business involves lots of tough, challenging tasks that you never anticipated. As you progress and grow (i.e. get through failure-like situations) you realize that this business is bigger than you and you just have to take it as a journey that doesn’t ever end.”
While Elon put it more succinctly, I love putting my own spin on thought-provoking words. Your interpretation of that same statement likely means something different to you. That also drives my point home that you will discover a unique way to run your business. You’ll bring your business idea to life in a way that jives with all the things that make you….you!
You’ll need to discover your personal style for:
- Overcoming challenges
- Bringing personality to your business
- Maintaining motivation
- Taking consistent action
- Setting goals and achieving them
- Letting go of goals that aren’t serving you well anymore
- Growing to become the best version of yourself (which should be regularly updated)
And how do you discover your business style?
- Start a new business
- Never give up
- Pivot as needed
- Be aware of that still small voice within you that will guide you in the direction you’re meant to go
And perhaps my life mantra will resonate with you:
Always be learning.
